Fragrance Bros.

Fun Fragance Reviews

Hawthorne is still great!

A couple of years ago, while on social media, I started noticing a lot of ads and then buzz about Hawthorne. They were advertising a customizable fragrance set after taking a short quiz, and this by itself piqued my interest. Being an avid fragrance lover, I am always on the hunt for those new fragrance brands that think outside the box and deliver a well-crafted product.

But I had my doubts. The concept seemed almost too good to be true. I knew it wouldn’t be a bespoke (a custom, and therefore expensive) fragrance, but I doubted whether Hawthorne would give me something for my experienced tastes.

So I did what all self-proclaimed fragrance-lovers do: I blind bought as much as I could. And I went bananas. I bought the cologne set, I bought shampoo, I bought deodorant, and I bought their body wash and bar soap. I took the quiz a couple of times to see if my results would change (they did), and then I decided to just answer everything as honestly as I could despite what the cologne suggestions were. After all, I still had no idea what they smelled like, despite Hawthorne’s descriptions on their website.

When everything arrived, I was more than impressed. The packaging was beautiful—and yes, I do love good packaging. Then I tried everything and I was even more impressed. These products are made for a general audience that might not have much experience with fragrances, and knowing that, I was impressed with just how polished there two scents were. The first was an excellent woody, citrus scent that hearkened back to memories of one of my favorite colognes. The other was an aromatic scent that was clean, ozonic, and also very wearable. Both were very well-done, and I was at a loss for words. Two great scents, that were actually something I liked, and they didn’t smell like cheap junk.

Over the next few days, I tried all the grooming products in my daily routine, and was again impressed by the quality of ingredients, the smell, and the overall performance of everything.

My biggest takeaways are this: first, Hawthorne is a great service, especially if you want a good fragrance and might not know what you want. Next: they are higher quality than I presumed. I assumed that the fragrances would be barely more than an Axe or clone you find in a drug store—they are not. They are just as well made as any high-quality fragrance you can find at a department store. And my last takeaway is that their boar soaps and their deodorants are fantastic. My favorites are their Hydrating Bar Soap and their Stain-free Deodorant. I was legitimately amazed by both of those products for how well they felt (and smelt), as well as how long they lasted. The soap, for instance, lasted for months.

I recently made some content about some of my favorite soaps, and just had to include Hawthorne, and I am currently making a deodorant video that will do the same in kind.

If you have wondered about Hawthorne, let me assuage any doubts you might have: I love them and I can definitely vouch for them. Hawthorne is still great in my book, and they are a company whose service I can highly recommend.
